IN FOCUS Golden eye The 11th Boeing-built GPS IIF satellite undergoes encapsulation inside a 14-footwide (4-meter) payload fairing prior to its successful launch Oct. 31 on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V booster from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Built by Boeing in El Segundo, Calif., the satellite advances the U.S. Air Force’s modernization program for the Global Positioning System, improving accuracy and enhancing security for the navigation satellite network used daily by billions of people around the world.
