Boeing Among Recipients of American Helicopter Society 2001 Awards
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 01, 2001 -- The American Helicopter Society handed out its 2001 awards recently at the organization's 57th annual forum in Washington, D.C.
This year's honorees from The Boeing Company in Mesa, Ariz., and Philadelphia include:
- The International WAH-64 Apache Team consisting of Westland Helicopters, Boeing, Rolls-Royce Turbomeca, Lockheed Martin and Longbow International as the winner of the Gruppo Agusta International Helicopter Fellowship. This award is presented to the individual or group who has made the most significant contribution to international vertical flight cooperation.
- The National Rotorcraft Technology Center and Rotorcraft Industry Technology Association Crash Safety and Navy Water Impact Small Business Innovative Research Teams consisting of Boeing, Bell, Sikorsky, Simula, Dynamic Response Inc., NAVAIR, Army-Yuma Proving Ground and the Federal Aviation Administration for their development of new and innovative test facilities and improved crash survivability design methodologies. The teams received the Harry T. Jensen Award, given in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the improvement of helicopter reliability, maintainability, safety or logistics support through improved design or technical achievement brought to fruition during the preceding year.
- Michael McVeigh, technical fellow -- Rotorcraft Engineering, received the Paul E. Haueter Award, given to an individual or group who makes a significant contribution to the development of vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft other than helicopters. "The Society has a long tradition of honoring the vertical flight industry's most outstanding achievements," said Rhett Flater, American Helicopter Society executive director. "Whether it be for a single outstanding contribution or achievement, a major technical innovation, an act of heroism, long and valued service or work, Society awards attract worldwide recognition."
The Boeing Company's rotorcraft units produce and support the AH-64D Apache Longbow multi-mission attack helicopter, the Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor, the CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopter and the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche reconnaissance helicopter.
