WICHITA, Kan., Oct. 26, 1999 -- The Boeing Company today announced contributions totaling more than a half-million dollars to three Wichita service organizations and one Topeka-based conservancy. Today's announcement includes:
- $100,000 to the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation of Kansas, Inc., toward the establishment of a $1.2 million Adaptive Computer Training Center
- $100,000 to the Nature Conservancy, Kansas Chapter. The conservancy purchases and protects Kansas wetlands and teaches and communicates the importance of conservation
- $75,000 to Teen Center, Inc., a location that will provide a safe, drug-, alcohol-, and tobacco-free environment for young people from ages 14 to 20. Among other things, the center will feature on-site tutoring, mentoring and social service outreach programs
- $250,000 to the Wichita Art Museum to support a capital expansion program
Jeff Turner, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group vice president, noted the long-standing special relationship between The Boeing Company and the citizens of Kansas.
Turner, himself a Wichita native, said Boeing relies on a strong and motivated local work force and, in turn, feels a responsibility to help maintain a healthy economy and to improving the quality of life for all Kansans.
"The contributions that we are announcing today, will, we hope, allow the receiving organizations to continue to fulfill their goals of service to humankind and nature," Turner said.
