COCOA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 5, 1996 -- Boeing Aerospace Operations, Inc. (BAO) has been selected by the U. S. Air Force Ogden Air Logistics Center to continue contractor logistics support (CLS) for Minuteman and Peacekeeper ICBM procedures trainers. The five-year award is valued at approximately $13 million. It represents a continuation of support Boeing has provided since 1988. "We're very pleased with the Air Force's decision," said Frank P. Smith, president and general manager of Boeing Aerospace Operations. "We are ready to continue this program and to give our best technical support for the tasks at hand." Under the contract, Boeing engineers and technicians will continue CLS work on 42 ICBM procedures trainers located at seven bases around the United States. The Minuteman and Peacekeeper trainers, which are exact duplicates of real-world launch-control centers, permit the Air Force to train mission-ready crews and maintenance personnel with realistic emergency war-order scenarios. The Air Force requirement is to keep these missile trainers operational at an availability level of 95 percent. Boeing also will provide configuration management, maintenance, software support, and computerized logistics and record keeping for the trainers. Other CLS requirements are maintenance and replacement spares for other than weapon system controlled items, custodianship, and support equipment. From 1966 to 1969, Boeing was one of two companies that delivered to the Air Force Minuteman trainers. From 1986 through 1987, Boeing delivered the Peacekeeper trainers to the Air Force. Boeing Aerospace Operations, Inc., with headquarters in Cocoa Beach, Fla., is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, and part of Boeing Defense and Space Group. Air Force Ogden Air Logistics Center is located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. |
