CAW Rejects Boeing Contract Offer WINNIPEG, August 6, 1996 - Boeing Winnipeg employees represented by the Canadian Auto Workers, Local 2169 voted today to reject the company's modified contract offer, continuing a 27-day strike by 870 employees. Boeing Vice President Government and Industry Affairs - Canada George Capern said, "We are greatly disappointed the company's proposal for a new contract was rejected." The Boeing Company finds the events surrounding the current strike action at Winnipeg regrettable and disappointing. To mitigate against risk, the company has been obliged to remove finished parts and assemblies, with related tooling, from our Winnipeg manufacturing facility. Tooling has been delivered to our principal fabrication center in Auburn, Washington, and used for manufacturing continuity. Capern added, "Boeing cannot accept any risk to its commercial jet airplane delivery systems in the Seattle area. We have commitments to our airline customers to which we are entirely dedicated and we fully intend to honor those commitments." |
