TABLE OF CONTENTS 16 FLIGHTS OF INNOVATION Boeing launched its ecoDemonstrator program in 2012 to accelerate the testing and refinement of new technologies to improve aviation’s environmental performance. This year, the program is using a 787 as its flying laboratory to evaluate more than two dozen technologies, from software that will provide pilots with improved weather and route information to hardware designed to lower weight, save fuel and reduce airplane noise. The program allows new technologies to be tested as soon as they are ready, speeding implementation on commercial jetliners. COVER: The 2014 ecoDemonstrator is a 787-8.
