Heavy lifting

When a Delta IV Heavy blasted off from a launch complex at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, it marked an important milestone -- return of heavy-lift capacity for the West Coast rocket range. Standing 235 feet (72 meters) tall, the Delta IV was the largest rocket ever launched from the West Coast of the United States. Boeing developed Delta IV, but the prime contractor is now United Launch Alliance, a joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin.
