Slipping the bonds
It’s not often an all-new Boeing jetliner makes that magical first flight. It happened Dec. 15 when the 787 Dreamliner completed its takeoff roll at Paine Field near Everett, Wash., and lifted off into an overcast morning. Several thousand Boeing employees were there to watch history being made. They cried, cheered, and pumped fists and arms in the air -- and took a lot of pictures. In this issue, Frontiers celebrates the 787’s first flight with 10 pages of photos taken by employees and by Boeing photographers.

Roaring overhead in tight formation in their Boeing F/A-18 Hornets or crisscrossing the sky with spectacular maneuvers, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels know how to thrill air-show crowds with their precision and teamwork. Boeing has a long association with the Blue Angels. Each year, before the Blues’ air-show season begins, a Boeing Shared Services Group team produces the Blue Angels’ yearbook. Several of the photos taken as part of the work on the 2010 yearbook by the Boeing team are featured in this gallery.
