As many as 45 pilots could be involved in testing the new 787 Dreamliner and the 747-8 Freighter, with another 50 supporting the flight-test programs. The last time Boeing ran two flight-test programs at the same time was when the 767 and 757 were being tested. Previously, test pilots for Boeing’s passenger jets and military aircraft worked for different parts of the company. All test pilots will soon be part of Boeing Test & Evaluation, an Engineering, Operations & Technology organization that will oversee flight testing for Commercial Airplanes and Integrated Defense Systems.
