New features of Boeing Matching Gift program include online access, change in giving period

Boeing employees (including those at Boeing subsidiaries) and retirees now can take advantage of several improvements to The Boeing Company Matching Gift Program.

The enhancements, which went into effect Jan. 1, include:

. Employees now have the option of making gift matches online. They also can download paper forms from the Boeing Web (at http://community.web.boeing.com/giftmatching) to complete manually and mail in as a hard copy. (The online option is not available to Boeing retirees, but it is planned for the near future.) The downloadable paper forms have been revised; any gifts submitted after Jan. 1 using the old paper forms will be returned to the donor, and the gift will not be matched until a new form is resubmitted.

. Employees receive e-mail notifications that their gifts have been matched, regardless of whether they use the online program or paper forms. Retirees receive e-mail notifications, if they have an e-mail address, or a letter sent on a quarterly basis.

. Domestic partners as well as spouses of Boeing active employees, eligible retirees and the Boeing Board of Directors members can now participate in the program.

. Matches are now paid out to nonprofit organizations on a quarterly basis, in January, April, July and October, rather than semiannually.

. To facilitate tax preparation, the giving period has changed to a calendar year, instead of from Dec. 1 to Nov. 30.

. All match recipients will be required to provide additional organizational information to comply with The USA Patriot Act of 2001, the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the "Best Practices" document released by the U.S. Treasury Department. Boeing will collect this information annually and will not distribute any monies to organizations that have not provided accurate and up-to-date information.

Boeing's Matching Gift Program extends the reach of Boeing's corporate community investments by leveraging employee and company resources for maximum community benefit.

The Matching Gift Program also allows Boeing employees and retirees to increase significantly the impact of their gifts, using Boeing's support. The Gift Matching Program allows employees and their spouses or domestic partners to donate up to $6,000 per calendar year, which Boeing will match dollar-for-dollar. Retirees and their spouses/domestic partners will receive a $.50 on-the-dollar match for contributions up to $6,000 per year to eligible organizations. If both a husband and wife are Boeing employees, the maximum donation for their household is $12,000.

Eligible organizations include K-12 and higher-education institutions, accredited technical schools and nonprofit cultural and arts organizations, and nonprofits that support land trusts and publicly owned parks.

(Health and human-services organizations, which are not eligible for the Matching Gift Program, are supported significantly with contributions from Boeing and the Employees Community Fund.)

Following are answers to some frequently asked questions about the Boeing Matching Gift Program:

Q. Who is eligible?
A. Active employees, active employees of a wholly owned subsidiary, retirees, and members of the Boeing Board of Directors and the spouses or domestic partners of any of the above mentioned participants.

Q. How do I know if the subsidiary I work for is eligible?
A. Active employees of wholly owned subsidiaries are the only eligible matching gift participants. Visit http://law.whq.boeing.com/corpsec/subsidiarylist.pdf on the Boeing Web to determine subsidiary eligibility.

Q. What are the minimum and the maximum amounts that the company will match for an employee?
A. The minimum match per eligible individual per calendar year is $25, and the maximum is $6,000 per individual or household. If both husband and wife are Boeing employees, the maximum amount per household is $12,000. Donations will be matched dollar for dollar to all eligible organizations for all eligible participants except retirees. Boeing retirees and their spouses or domestic partners donations will be matched at 50 percent (50 cents for every $1 contributed) up to $3,000 per year.

Q. What organizations are eligible for matching gifts?
A. The match will be made to K-12 and higher education institutions, accredited technical schools, nonprofit cultural and arts organizations, including nonprofits that support land trusts and publicly owned parks. Q. Health and human service organizations are not in the list of eligible organizations. Why aren’t they included in the new program?
A. Health and human service organizations are supported significantly by Boeing corporate contributions and through the Employee Community Fund.

Q. Can I request matching funds any time during the year?
A. Yes. Gifts are eligible for matching up to one year from the date the gift was made. The company’s matching checks will be distributed on a quarterly basis to eligible organizations.

Q. How do I find out how much I have given to the program and when my gift is matched?
A. There are two ways to find out how much you have given and when your gift is matched. The first is by making a gift online by going to www.easymatch.com/boeing. Online users have visibility of all of the gifts they make and are notified when their gift is matched. Donors also receive an e-mail confirming every gift that they make. These e-mails should be retained for record-keeping purposes. If a donor uses the paper forms, they will be notified via e-mail or letter on a quarterly basis of all matching gifts once they have been completed.

Q. Can I use my BEMS ID on the Matching Gift form or should I use my Social Security number?
A. You should use your BEMS ID if you have one. If you do not have a BEMS ID, you may use the last five digits of your Social Security number.

Q. Why does the form ask for the board of directors and top five highest paid staff of an organization?
A. This information is required per compliance requirement with The USA Patriot Act of 2001, the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the “Best Practices” document released by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. All either require or recommend increased due diligence in regard to “Watch Lists” or “Specially Designated Nationals Lists.”

These lists have the names of companies, groups, and individuals who are connected with economic and trade sanctions based on U.S. foreign policy and national security goals targeted towards foreign countries, terrorists, international narcotics traffickers, and those engaged in activities related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. All U.S. citizens and permanent resident aliens, entities within the United States, and all U.S.-incorporated entities and their foreign branches are prohibited from dealing with Specially Designated Nationals Lists. By following these guidelines and federal orders, The Boeing Company is protecting its investments in the communities where our employees live and work.

Q. Does Boeing audit the program?
A. Yes. When Boeing receives credible evidence that the program rules are being violated, payments are suspended to the organization, and civil and criminal authorities are notified in appropriate circumstances.

Q. Are domestic partners eligible for the Matching Gift Program? What is the definition of a domestic partner?
A. Yes. Same sex domestic partners are eligible. Boeing defines domestic partners as “An individual of the same gender who lives with the employee in the same permanent residence in a permanent, exclusive, emotionally committed, and financially responsible relationship similar to a marriage. A Domestic Partner must be at least 18 years old, cannot be related to the employee by blood, cannot be married to or legally separated from another person, cannot be a domestic partner to anyone else, and cannot be in the relationship with the employee solely to obtain eligibility under the Program.”
