Strategic Architecture reorganized to provide better NCO support

Strategic Architecture, the Integrated Defense Systems organization that created the two Boeing Integration Center sites, was reorganized last month to further strengthen Boeing's position as a lead systems integrator and provider of network-centric operations (NCO) solutions.

As part of the realignment, Strategic Architecture's laboratories and demonstration centers, including the two Boeing Integration Centers, were integrated into the Analysis, Modeling and Simulation organization. Analysis, Modeling and Simulation was created in late 2004 to leverage, integrate and strengthen the capabilities of the network of modeling, simulation and analysis facilities at Boeing locations across the United States.

"The reorganization strengthens the role of the Boeing Integration Centers and their contribution to Boeing and its customers, bringing together the company's entire network of NCO-enabling modeling, simulation and analysis capabilities into one organization," said Jim Albaugh, IDS CEO and president. "We will be able to better coordinate and leverage these capabilities when providing solutions to our customers."

At the same time, Strategic Architecture's engineering and NCO Program Support groups have been integrated as part of the NCO Programs and Technologies organization within Phantom Works' Integrated Defense Advanced Systems.

This organization, led by Integrated Defense Advanced Systems Vice President and Deputy General Manager Rick Baily, will be the conduit for transitioning NCO technologies to the business units and for creating and capturing new NCO programs.

Carl O'Berry, formerly vice president of Strategic Architecture, is now IDS vice president of Network Centric Architectures and will continue to provide strategic support to IDS contracts and programs.

Under Analysis, Modeling and Simulation Vice President Guy Higgins, the two Boeing Integration Centers, in Anaheim, Calif., and Crystal City, Va., along with the Virtual Warfare Center in St. Louis and the connecting LabNet, will focus on modeling NCO and system-of-systems performance. Analysis, Modeling and Simulation will remain aligned with both IDS Engineering and Integrated Defense Advanced Systems and work to support all IDS business units.
