Silver Snoopy Award
Of all the SFA awards, the Silver Snoopy best symbolizes the intent and spirit of SFA. Astronauts personally present this award to employees for outstanding performance. Since the Snoopy represents the astronauts' own recognition of excellence, receiving it is a special honor.
The number of Silver Snoopys presented in any year cannot exceed 1% of the program population. Only one Snoopy award for an individual is permitted. The Award will not be used posthumously or as a recognition award for an individual's longevity, retirement, or separation from service. The National Panel member will provide final approval before award presentation.
The award consists of:
- A flown Silver Snoopy pin
- The commendation letter (stating when the Snoopy was flown)
- Signed Silver Snoopy certificate and frame
- Snoopy decals and posters
Award Presentation Process
The preferred method of award presentation is in the workplace of the recipient, with co-workers present, and as a surprise to the recipient. The astronaut signs the letter of commendation and Silver Snoopy Certificate before the presentation begins. During the presentation, the astronaut awards the recipient with the letter of commendation, the framed Silver Snoopy Certificate, and a flown Silver Snoopy Pin with its letter of authenticity. Afterward, the SFA representative or a member of the recipient's organization will present the recipient with a Symbol of Excellence Snoopy decal and poster.
NOTE: Lost Silver Snoopy pins will be replaced with unflown pins at the discretion of the SFA Panel Member.
