EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 04, 2001 -- Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS), the world's leading satellite manufacturer, has named satellite industry leader Dr. Alexis Livanos as executive vice president and second-in-command, reporting directly to BSS President Randy Brinkley. As executive vice president of BSS, Dr. Livanos is responsible for managing the execution of the BSS business plan, including Spectrolab, Inc., and Boeing Electron Dynamic Devices subsidiaries. "Alexis Livanos has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of advanced communication systems, technology and technology insertions, hardware design and manufacturing and satellite production," said Brinkley. "He is a truly talented executive whose extensive industry background makes him uniquely qualified to excel in this demanding role."

Prior to joining BSS in October 2000, Dr. Livanos was executive vice president of Operations at Loral Space and Communications and was responsible for engineering, manufacturing and programs. He drove the development of the next generation of high-performance, high-power satellites and refocused the engineering and manufacturing organizations on the business basics of driving down cost while maintaining performance.

Before that, he spent 16 years in various, increasingly key positions at TRW, Inc., in both line and program management capacities. His last position was program manager for the Guardrail Program, which is a remotely controlled aircraft and sensor system for wideband signal acquisition, detection and analysis. Prior to this, he was deputy general manager for the Electronics Systems and Technology Division, which provided electronic components, commercial RF devices for cellular applications, subsystems and payloads for internal and external customers.

Dr. Livanos received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He earned his master of science degree in engineering science, and his doctorate degree in engineering science and physics, also from Caltech. He has applied for three patents and published 18 technical papers in refereed journals. Dr. Livanos and his family live in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
