The 777 is significantly more fuel-efficient than its competitor
Thanks to a new wing, more efficient engine, and a lighter structure, the 777 makes efficient use of fuel. And this, in turn, means lower emissions per passenger seat. For every pound of fuel conserved, three fewer pounds of carbon dioxide are generated. The bottom line: Fuel efficiency isn't just good for economics, it's good for the environment.

The 777 is cleaner than the A340
While carbon dioxide effects the global atmosphere, other emissions such as hydrocarbons, which contribute to local smog, have an impact on air quality near airports. Boeing has worked continually to reduce such emissions, and the results show: You'll never see a smoke trail from a 777. In fact, the 777 is so clean that is meets tomorrow's international emissions standards today. With the 777, we can all breathe a little easier.

The 777 produces a much smaller noise footprint than the A340
Noise footprints show how much noise a community is exposed to when an airplane takes off. The smaller the footprint, the better for airport neighbors. The 777's more aerodynamic landing gear and twin engines are just two of the improvements that we've made in noise performance. As a result, the 777 is quieter than the competition - and the 777-200 is the quietest airplane in its class. Reducing noise is just one of the ways that we minimize the environmental impact of our airplanes. We know that quiet airplanes make for happier airport neighbors.

The 777 is quieter than current and proposed noise standards
Our goal is safe, efficient, affordable airplanes with excellent environmental performance. And our 777 airplanes are so remarkably quiet that they meet tomorrow's international noise standards today. The cumulative margin of the 777-300 is as much as 20 decibels below the current Chapter 3 international stands, and the cumulative margin of the 777-200 is as much as 25 decibels below the standard. At Boeing, we believe airplanes should be seen, not heard.
