Boeing 767-400ER -- Best Fit for Markets That Regularly Require up to 300 Seats

The Boeing 767-400ER is sized to fit comfortably between the 767-300ER and the Boeing 777-200. A longer fuselage, broader wingspan, aerodynamic improvements, increased takeoff weight capability, and an all-new main landing gear distinguish the 767-400ER from its smaller family members.

The 767-400ER offers significant operating economics advantages over other 240- to 300-seat airplanes:

  • Greater payload capability
  • Longer range
  • Superior passenger comfort
  • Commonality with Boeing jetliners operating throughout the world

The 767-400ER is an ideal replacement for L-1011, DC-10-30 and A300 airplanes that are no longer economical in today's highly competitive business environment.

The 767-400ER is ideal for markets that are outgrowing the 767-300 or A300-600. Its range of 5,635 nautical miles (10,415 km) allows the 767-400ER to fly nearly all (99 percent) of the routes served by those smaller airplanes.

Weighing 40,000 pounds (18,144 kg) less than the comparably sized A330-200, the 767-400ER costs at least 5 percent less to operate than the Airbus airplane.

The combination of range and low operating costs allow the 767-400ER to serve all US domestic routes in addition to lucrative intercontinental routes such as Los Angeles-London, Newark-Moscow or Chicago-Warsaw. The potential to open new nonstop markets such as New York-Santiago, Chile; Seattle-Osaka and Atlanta-Honolulu are well within the capabilities of this efficient airplane.

The 767-400ER was launched April 28, 1997, with a 21-airplane order from Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines.

A 26-airplane order from Continental Airlines followed October 10 the same year. The first airplane rolled out of the Boeing factory August 26, 1999 and made its inaugural flight October 9, 1999.

Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines took delivery of their first 767-400ERs in August 2000.

The 767-400ER entered revenue service September 14, 2000.
