Q&A on next steps if the contract is ratified
Earlier this week Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) reached tentative agreement on a contract offer, and tomorrow employees will cast their votes.
The following will apply if the contract offer is ratified Nov. 1, 2008.
Q. When do I return to work?
A. If the contract is ratified, employees can return to work starting with 3rd shift, Sunday Nov. 2 (which is the Monday, Nov. 3 shift), and all employees must return to work no later than the start of their normal shift on Monday, Nov. 10.
Q. What if I can't return to work by Nov. 10?
A. Employees who are unable to return to work by Nov. 10 because of medical reasons will be reviewed for medical leave of absence on a case-by-case basis. Employees who are unable to return to work because of unavoidable and compelling reasons will also be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Other employment during the strike will not be considered as an unavoidable and compelling reason to delay reporting to work. If you foresee having a problem returning to work by Nov. 10 contact your manager as soon as possible. Your manager will coordinate your request with Employee Relations.
Q. When will I see the pay increases?
A. Any payments resulting from changes to base rates, cost of living adjustments, shift differential, AOG premiums, team leader premiums, job classification upgrades, or any other wage adjustments resulting from changes made to wages or premiums in the 2008 - 2012 collective bargaining agreement, will be paid on or before December 4. They may be paid in the employee's regularly scheduled paycheck(s) or by separate paycheck.
Q. When will the lump sum payments be made?
A. 2008 – by November 7, 2008
2009 – by December 1, 2009
2010 – by December 1, 2010
Q. How will my health insurance coverage be affected now that the strike is over?
A. As long as you return to work by Nov. 10, 2008, your insurance coverage will be considered uninterrupted by the strike. Any valid insurance claims you made during the strike will be paid. Please note, you are responsible for any required payroll deductions that were not taken in September, October or November. These retroactive deductions will be taken from your Nov. 20, paycheck, or when sufficient funds are available.
Q. When does the new retirement benefit go into effect?
A. Jan. 1, 2009.
